What is TISAX and why is it important?

TISAX (Trusted Information Security Assessment Exchange) is an information security standard for the automotive industry, developed by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Based on ISO 27001, it sets out the security requirements that suppliers and partners must fulfil. TISAX certification demonstrates to potential partners that a company meets high security standards and is critical to meeting the requirements of automotive manufacturers.

Who needs TISAX certification?

Companies operating in the automotive industry that process or develop sensitive data, or act as suppliers, often require TISAX certification. Automotive manufacturers also typically require this certification from their partners and service providers, ensuring that their information security standards align with industry requirements.

What are the requirements for TISAX certification?

TISAX certification is based on the VDA-ISA (Information Security Assessment) catalogue, which is built on the requirements of ISO 27001 and has additional requirements for information security and data protection. To be certified, companies must implement a comprehensive information security management system (ISMS) covering areas such as access controls, risk management, security guidelines, and sensitive data protection.

How does the certification process work?

It consists of several stages. First, the company carries out internal preparations, adapting its ISMS to the TISAX requirements. It then commissions an ENX-accredited audit service provider to assess the implementation of, and compliance with, the TISAX requirements. Upon successful completion, the company receives a TISAX seal, which must be renewed regularly to maintain certification.
